About the owner
Kristen Childs is the lead consultant at Simply Minovet. She was also the owner of Minovet, the luxury hair care, loungewear, and personal care accessory brand. She began sewing and crafting from her kitchen table in 2015 after a health crisis that made her retire her cosmetology chair early in life.
As Type 1 Diabetic and an advocate for adversity resilience, she embraced her limitations and began to create and sew from her home for those interested in handmade fashion accessories. Her passion for fashion and crafting sparked something greater and Minovet grew from a small personalized custom shop on Etsy to creating and selling to her local and international distributors. Minovet's satin bonnets have been featured on WCIU Chicago's The Jam in their Jam Deals segment and showcased on Scene Chicago powered by UBM. Her luxury satin bonnets and loungewear were featured in Chicago's Black Fashion Week 2022 and CIE Fashion Magazine (Los Angeles, CA). She also reached Top Shop status on the wholesale marketplace, Faire, and received a Brand Spotlight feature on Abound. There she sold her top-selling branded bonnets and private-label items for her many clients.
While still working through health complications in early 2022, the decision was made to handmake fashion as a passion that she keeps for personal pleasure and has closed the doors at Minovet to take on a supportive role for other growing brands.
After her induction into the Meta Boost Leaders Network and Meta Elevate, she learned the importance of balance, planning, and teamwork. Her mission adjusted to take her experience of growing her business from small crafting to small batch manufacturing to help other thriving artisans and business owners do the same. All while also speaking about the quality of life balance that we all need. She frequently speak to her community online about living the life you want to live on purpose and to plan for all that you want to achieve.
